An active RFID tag contains a battery and uses the power from that battery to transmit it's encoded ID number(s) to the reader or receiver. Active tags are often referred to as transponders. Some active RFID tags constantly transmit, and some only transmit when they detect RF from the reader.

Wavetrend Asset Tag (Domino)
Wavetrend Asset Tag with Movement Sensor

Description:

The Wavetrend series of Active RFID Tags are powered by an internal lithium battery. The Tag will, for the duration of its life, transmit a Radio Frequency (RF) signal at a pre-set time-interval. The Tag life is estimated at 5 years at a transmission time interval of approximately 1.5 seconds. The lifespan of the Tag ends when the battery life is exhausted. Battery status can be inferred by interrogating the internal Tag Age Counter Value.
The transmitted Tag data includes Customer Site Code (CSC), Tag ID, Tag Age Counter Value, Movement Alarm and Tamper Alarm status. For protection against adverse environmental conditions, Wavetrend Tags are encapsulated in a moulded plastic case, which is ultrasonically sealed during the manufacturing process.
The Domino RFID Tag is generally used for asset tagging. The mounting and affixing of a Tag depends on the type of application. The standard method is by VHB type double-sided adhesive tape.
The Tag can be configured to accommodate Wiegand interfacing.

Features:

Configurable settings, including Site / Vendor ID, Tag ID, Transmission Repetition Interval and Alarm functions (these are programmed at order placement stage)
Low power consumption. Tag life is estimated at 5 years when transmitting at a 1.5-second interval.
A random dispersion around the transmit interval mean is used to minimise the inter-tag collisions
External Antennae applications

Applications:

Wavetrend Tags can be mounted on a variety of items. Where permanent fixing is required, VHB double-sided tape is used.

USB Port Reader

Description:

The Reader interface to the personal computer via a standard USB cable (incorporated into the reader). One of the features of this reader is that it operates on a plug and play basis due to the USB standard it complies to.
The reader works in conjunction with the Wavetrend Active RF ID Tags. The enclosure was designed in such a way that it enhances the esthetical value of that individual’s desk.
The user is able to select only one tag via software and monitor that specific tag, or monitor a few tags which was selected by the user at installation.

Features:

The reader gain can be adjusted from high to low gain mode dynamically via software
The reader is completely plug and play.
The reader complies with all the USB 1.1 standards. Meaning it can interface to any USB hub etc.
In stand-alone mode the RSSI setting can be set dynamically via software. Which controls the read-range of the reader.
The user receives a working DLL to interface to the reader. This then simplifies interfacing on software level to hardware, which makes the reader very transparent.

Applications:

1. PCAC
The reader can be used for the Link-it PCAC system.
2. STAND ALONE READER
The reader may be used as a general reader were there is but only a personal computer with USB port and no RS-485 network nearby.

SOFTWARE
  APS Smart Tag

Description:

SmartTag is a Local Positioning System that can give your organisation the ability to locate, record and control the movements of people and assets in a predefined area. The SmartTag system has been designed to utilise the range and flexibility of "Active" RFID technology.

SmartTag enables your organisation to easily:

Monitor the location of people and assets within your organisation in Real-time
Enable automatic Access control and restrict Public access
Perform an immediate Stock take of all tagged objects
Control the movements of Secure and High Value assets
Restrict access to secure areas, and even access to PCs
Report on all activities that have occurred within the system, for one or more objects, activities, zones etc.
Record and report time and attendance details of contractors and staff
Manage Site evacuations
Create and enforce rules regarding the tagged objects in your system
Manage Security personnel

SmartTag monitors events that occur within your organisation, and takes actions according to the rules that you set for your system. A sample of the types of events that can be monitored, include:

When a tag enters a zone or site (pre-defined area)
When a tag moves in a zone
Whenever a tag leaves a zone, or the site
When a tag moves from one zone to another zone
If a tag enters a zone without a parent/buddy tag in the same zone
When a tag moves in zone without a parent/buddy tag in the same zone

Actions that can be taken by the SmartTag system include:

Activate a warning light or alarm (using an I/O interface)
Make a telephone call and pass on a message to a third party (eg: a security guard)
Record input via a telephone regarding action to be taken
Raise a violation (alert) to a monitoring screen
Send an Email with a message
Send I/O interface pins high/low
Run an external application.
